Lee Scott was President and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. from January 2000 to January 2009, and then served as executive officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors’ Executive Committee from January 2009 to January 2011. Scott began working for Walmart in 1979 in the company’s Logistics division.
Scott joined Solamere Capital—the private equity firm of Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney’s oldest son—as an operating partner and a member of its investment committee in November 2009.
Scott was CEO of Walmart at the time that bribery allegations arose out of the company’s Mexico subsidiary. According to the New York Times, Scott chastised Walmart’s internal investigations team for being too aggressive in its investigation, and later led the meeting at which responsibility for the bribery investigation was transferred to a Walmart lawyer who himself was allegedly implicated in the scheme.
